The national living wage was implemented in April 2016 to make sure that all workers aged 25 and over are to be paid at least £7.20 an hour. In April 2017 this increased to £7.50 and rose again in April 2018 to £7.83.

The government have released another update that the national living wage is expected to reach at least £8.75 by April 2020.

Each year the national living wage is calculated based on the impact that the national living wage has on the labour market.

In the event of the national living wage reaching £8.75 an hour, millions of workers will gain a massive pay increase by 2020.
