If you are due to renew your work visa or your work visa has expired and you are undergoing the renewal process, the system has changed and there are now several ways in which your application can be verified in order for you to continue in employment whilst the checks are pending, here is a list of ways your application can be verified:
1.Case reference number
2.Passport number (if sent off with application form)
3.Payment reference number from bank
4.Bio-metric enrolment letter (can take 6-8 weeks)
5.Post office tracker number
These methods are not always guaranteed a result but may enable you to establish your application is live for work purposes.
If you apply for an ECS check online rather than by post you should get a case reference number back within hours or sometimes days, as opposed to the old postal system which meant that you sometimes had to wait weeks. you might have to wait weeks.
